Hongary is really a good wine country. Contrary to what many people think, Tokaj in Hungary is the oldest wine region in Europe ever classified, 120 years earlier than Bordeaux. And King Louis XIV and many popes were regular customers in Hungary. Communism destroyed almost everything in the last century, vineyards were nationalized, the amount of liters was more important than quality.
But Hungary is back again. Centuries-old terroirs have been replanted, much Western money has been invested in the most modern vinification methods. Royal houses and Popes are again clients. Hungarian wines are exciting, partly due to the use of indigenous grapes. And they win prizes again at many international competitions. Hungarian wines are a must for the adventurous wine drinker.
What a great wine is the Tokaji Aszu 3 puttonyos! I have not previously drunk a better ratio between sweet and sour with a dessert wine. Besides the usual sweetness of Tokaj Aszu beautiful, crystalline acids as we know Furmint at its best. Perhaps extra good that this is 3 puttonyos, so the wine remains nice and fresh despite its sweetness.

On the advice of Henk I took this wine and I have done well for the day! A super delicious dry white wine. Fresh, but also a full taste on the other side. Fits very well with asparagus in this time (spring), but can also be used as a beer. So enjoy with this wine!
